Into the Woods – No More

Into the Woods

Contributor Role: Actor, Audience Member

Story Type:

I had recently moved to a new town but had not done any acting since high school.  I saw an audition notice for production of Guy and Dolls and figure that this was a chance to get back to acting and to meet some new people in this new town.  I was cast and found this great group of social people who were having a great deal of fun.    I volunteered back stage and in a variety of other job around the theater.   It was fun and something to do with fun people.

A little while later, this group produced Into The Woods.  The show was great, but when The Baker sang No More, that was a moment that changed my life.  I realized at that moment what power theater had to move people.  I was really floored.  The show ran for four weekends.  I make sure I was there every performance to hear The Baker sing No More.

It’s been over 20 years since I saw that and it is still the measure of excellence I use when seeing other people sing big ballads.   It still drives me to make very moment I have on stage as meaningful for the audience as that performance was for me.
